OH MY GOD I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember all that bitching about not being able to figure out the finger braiding/cording thing (well, I bitched on SCA_garb anyway)? I found a way around it!! Monkey didn't see, but Monkey still did.

I printed out the instructions from several places, poured over them repeatedly, and then chose the simplest one that seemed to make the most sense to me. Thank you to the woman who creates The Tudor Costume Page, yours seemed the simplest and most straight-forward to my backwards little brain. =D

Once I settled on that one, I poured over it repeatedly for the next several hours until I thought I could kinda make sense of it. After that, (not more than an hour ago) I kidnapped John, and made him help me with the next step. I prepped the string (yarn in my case since well, I have lots of that on hand =P ), then had him stand right next to me reading the instructions, look at my hands, and guide me with the 'this one goes here.. now do this.. ok now that one goes there, rinse, and repeat'. After one false start where I kept wanting to reverse just how they're transfered from one finger to the other - I kept wanting to drop the moved thread over the one to be moved, instead of pulling the to be moved over the already moved (haha bet that made no sense!), I got going quite smoothly, and finished it in about 15 minutes.

The completed cord is only about 20.5 inches long, but I'm tiny and have short arms. =/

But .. but.. OH MY GOD I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you can see, I did forget which direction I was going, and not once, but twice.. and my pinkies hurt. =( But dammit, YAY anyway.

Time to like.. try to go play dead now, since I got up at 4:30 this morning and my brain has hated me all day for it. I hate trying to fix my clock almost as much as I hate the guilt trips I give myself when it's broken.

Well Done! Now if I could just get up the courage to try. ;) What will you use it on?

I personally like the instructions on the Fingerloop Braids page. They have lots of variations on the cords when you're ready to take another dive into fingerlooping! :) Your 1st cord looks great, by the way - nice even tension throughout from what I can see.
